move unraid to new config

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased new hardware for my unraid server,

I come from an Intel® Xeon® CPU E5-2699 v3 +asus X99-WS/IPMI + 4x 32gb ram ddr4 ecc reg  2400mhz --->

AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5955WX + asus es wrx80e-sage se wifi II + 2 x 64gb ddr4 reg 3200mhz

and asus resulting in RAM upgrade (frequency increase) and new case. the HHDs remain the same together with NVMI, I don't have any PCI raid card all sata.

the nvdia 2060 GPU will also remain in the new config with the addition of an ARC 770

I count a 20 TB disk as parity (insert another 20 TB disk as the second disk with the new config) a 14 TB + 6 TB +12 TB +16 + 5 TB (temporary it will become an 18 TB)

plus 2 1TB nvmi in raid 1 as cache

I'm just wondering if I need to make any particular changes before switching, or what do you recommend I do?

I read in a topic that it was written that you need to enter a command for Threadripper and Zen 3. does anyone know what to include?

at the moment the VMs do not have any PCI card, later they will have 1 arc 770 gpu
the only docker (plex) that has the 2060 set in composer

Hi, I just bought this motherboard the ASUS ws wrx80e-safe se wifi ii with a thread ripper CPU. what motherboard settings do you have? I can't get unraid to boot, it just stalls out. appreciate your help.

Start by checking some things in your BIOS:

- Turn OFF Fast Boot

- Check your boot order and confirm that the Unraid Flash is selected as the first boot device

- UEFI or Legacy - You likely wish to boot in UEFI mode.  Confirm that your BIOS and flash drive are aligned.  The folder in your flash drive should be named EFI for UEFI boot, and named EFI- for Legacy boot.

Thank you for your reply. Yes I did confirm I am on UEFI boot, and the folder is EFI (not EFI-). also fast boot is off. I've attached a screenshot of where it gets hung up. any advice is greatly appreciated.

Might want to try something that @JorgeB recommended in this thread:

Thanks. How does one blacklist a driver?

See the 6.10.0 release notes in the docs site, it shows how to blacklist GPU drivers, but it's the same for any other driver.

Ok thanks. Does the screenshot tell you which driver i should blacklist?

Try blacklisting the GPU driver that you are using first.

I blacklisted all the drivers listed in the 6.10 release notes and now it gets stuck here. any help is greatly appreciated. I have an Nvidia 3090 GPU

You should only blacklist the ones you are using.

Is the monitor connected to the Nvidia or other? Also, is the Nvidia driver installed?

I don’t know, but I didn’t actively do that. How do i install the Nvidia driver without starting the OS? Thanks sorry for the ignorance.

I don’t know

You need to find out, the video out may be going out through the other GPU.

I’m so sorry, I meant I don’t know if the nvidia driver is installed, I did not do any thing like that. There is only 1 gpu and that hdmi cable is connected to the nvidia gpu, the only one in the machine

I think you can install the Nvidia driver manually, but don't remember how, @ich777should be able to help with that.

It's not easy but doable...

However where does your server stall exactly? Are you really sure it stalls where it is instead booting but without any output on the screen?

I see your Motherboard has IPMI and that can cause trouble IIRC when the video driver is loaded.

He mentioned blacklisting all the GPU drivers in the list, that would include the ast driver.

how would I find out if it is just not outputting on the screen? plug it in directly to the IPMI?

yes I did that

Though I guess it could still be using that has the output, that's why I asked before

I think at that stage from where you posted the picture above it loads the display drivers, however does your NIC indicator led does light up?

Maybe try to look in your router if you get a new device assigned and you maybe can connect to it.

Just to close this out. I think you are right, it was actually loading, but since it didnt show me the IP address i thought it was just stuck. However, I need the AST driver blacklisted to get it to show the progress all the way through.
