October 13, 201114 yr I've been using the free version of Unraid for a few months now. Because I am using the free version, all of the shares have simple security and there are no users. All of a sudden today, my HTPC (Windows 7) couldn't access any of my shares. When I try, I get asked for a user name and password, which it has never done before. My laptop is also running Windows 7 and can access all of the shares with no problem. Any help would be appreciated.
September 13, 201312 yr This is an old topic, but in case someone is searching for a problem with Windows suddenly demanding a password to access a network drive or networked computer... Note: I'm running two unRAID NAS towers and I'm using public access for all my shares on both unRAID towers and everything is behind a good firewall. Today I updated both of my unRAID servers from 4.7 to 5.0. Very smooth update, BTW, except that one of my PCs could no longer access the shares on the first tower. Windows demanded a username and password every time I tried to access but nothing seemed to make it work. My other PCs could access this tower and I could access the second tower from all my PCs including my "bad" PC. Also, the web tool for both the towers worked just fine from my "bad" PC. I googled for a solution but nothing seemed to fit this situation and none of the suggestions worked. Finally I found a hint and went to Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Manage Your Credentials and under the Windows Credentials was an entry for the first tower. Not sure how it got there, but I removed it and unfettered access to my first tower was restored. Robert
