October 13, 201114 yr TRENDnet TEG-S5g Gigabit GREENnet Switch 10/100/1000Mbps 5 x RJ45 1K MAC Address Table 104Kbytes Buffer Memory $20 shipped after promo EMCJKJG54 (expires 10/19/2011) I use this same switch in my HTPC setup. It has a plastic casing, so it doesn't feel quite as nice as the metal cased ones, but it works just fine. I'm thinking about buying another. Edit: Here's the metal cased version for $20 at Buy.com! October 14, 201114 yr Just my opinion but I found these switches to really stink. They drop a lot of packets and I had trouble streaming on my sagetv box anything with HD. Replaced the switch with a quality one and it has been ok since.

Replaced the switch with a quality one and it has been ok since. You are the first person I've seen report any problems at all with these switches. Perhaps you received a defective unit? I've been using two of them (a 5 port and an 8 port) for months on end and had no trouble. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the second 5 port switch that just arrived today (the Buy.com link above) is actually an improved design that is much smaller than the original!
