Unraid boots but does not load

Featured Replies

My unraid USB is succesfully getting to the boot screen where I can choose to run in GUI or without GUI etc and in safe mode. But i've tried all options and it doesn't load. Seems to get stuck as shown in the screenshot.

I had plex/swag/qbitorrent/homeassistant running so if my usb is corrupted i'm hoping I can still somehow get back in and retrieve my files😟

Put the stick into another computer (eg: Windows) and run chkdsk on it

I ran the checkdisk utility in windows 11 but I don't think it found any errors. Booted up and still shows the same screen. I also see the machine in my router list but can't access it

Try recreating the flash drive, if the same try booting with a different one using a stock Unraid install, no key needed, just to see if it boots.

So I backed up my USB and flashed a fresh unraid using the unraid USB creator. Then I copied the config folder over to the USB stick and I was getting the exact same error.

So I reflashed it using the creator and told it to boot to Gui and the screen eventually turned blank. I was able to login from my phone but I didn't want to start the raid since I don't remember which drive was parity and it says it will wipe the drive when I start thr array and also the it won't let me activate it since it says the USB is key is in use.

Im hoping there is a way I can restore at least my drive config even if I have to reinstall all the docker apps.

Copy super.dat from the backup, it will have the last assignments.

I tried copying over just super.dat and overwriting that file from the freshly created USB but it just gets stuck again like it did before

I don't see how just restoring super.dat would make the boot hang, try again with a stock super.dat, and if it boots post the old one here.

Not sure if this helps, I wasn't able to read the file.

super.dat

And did it boot with a stock super.dat? Based on the old super.dat looks like you only have parity and one data disk, is that correct?

  • Author

Yeah, it boots fine with new super.dat.

I had one 4tb parity and one 4tb hd so that is correct. Also had one cache drive

Boot with the new super.dat and re-assign the devices and check "parity is already valid", if there's only parity and one data drive they are interchangeable, but they were assigned as in this order:

WDC_WD40EFZX-68AWUN0_WD-WXB2DA1ENA66

ST4000DM004-2CV104_ZTT36RHC

Pool device will just need to be re-assigned.

Thanks for your help, I did end up moving my Unraid USB to a less power hungry machine and copying over the config file and making it bootable worked!
