February 4, 20242 yr I run a Windows 11 machine with built-in 2.5GbE networking. I am running an Unraid trial on an older motherboard with only a 1GbE network connection. The machines are currentlhy connected through a 1GbE switch. I'd like to leverage the faster connection in the Windows machine, so was thinking of buying a switch that would support 2.5GbE (and 10GbE for future proofing) and a 2.5GbE PCI card for the Unraid server. My question is, will the Unraid server recognize the new NIC card and start using it automatically or do I need to manually change config files (or other settings) to have it use the new, faster NIC?

The Linux kernel will assign the first detected NIC to eth0. If you want another NIC to be eth0, you can assign it by MAC address in Settings --> Network Settings in the GUI. I have two 1GbE NICS but you will see something like this in the GUI: Edited February 4, 20242 yr by Hoopster
