Connecting 10gbe PCI Card Disables Onboard NIC

Featured Replies

Hello, trying to figure out what is causing my issue here. In short, if I want to use the onboard 1gb LAN on the motherboard I cannot have the PCI 10gbe card installed. If I want to only use the 10gbe PCI card, then everything is ok -- if I want to use the onboard LAN port then I have to remove the PCI card completely. I want to be able to use the onboard NIC without having to completely remove the PCI card to do so.

So far I have:

  • Unplug 10gbe cable and plug in ethernet to onboard lan port. No IP address gets assigned. I have deleted network.cfg to see if that would help and it did not.
  • Removed the 10gbe PCI card and tested the onboard LAN port. IP was assigned and no issues there.
  • Connect the 10gbe card to a switch. IP was assigned and no issues.
  • Plug ethernet into onboard LAN while PCI card is installed (tried card in multiple slots), no IP address assigned. No option to set a network priority.

I was trying to connect the server to a router via ethernet and then direct connect the 10gbe card to a a different PC, but I can't get the IP to assign the way it currently is going. Any help is appreciated. Diagnostics attached.

I'm assuming it has something to do with this with my 4 onboard ports. Still googling around here, but maybe someone knows the cause.

That didn't change anything. I did end up installing a 2.5g PCI card and it picked it up fine. Not sure what the onboard issue is but didn't feel like spending much time on it since I don't really need to use both.
