February 8, 20242 yr Hi, I'm new to unraid and i want to migrate from 1 bay PC to 2 bay nas. PC has 1 6tb drive with data. I bought new 8tb drive and want to set up UNRAID with it, migrate the data from PC, and then move 6TB to the array. Problem is that i can't setup 8tb for data and 6tb for parity, so i wanted to first set up 8tb for data, migrate, add 6tb as 2'nd data and then change 8tb to parity. Will it work? Can anyone help me go thtrough steps so i don't loose data? Thanks!
February 8, 20242 yr Community Expert Will you have a backup if you use both of those disks in Unraid?

February 8, 20242 yr Community Expert Parity is not a substitute for backup. Plenty of ways to lose data besides a failed disk, including user error.

February 8, 20242 yr Community Expert You could keep the 6TB disk with its data as a backup, and make the array with the 8TB as parity and another new disk for data. 1 hour ago, kusz said: set up 8tb for data, migrate, add 6tb as 2'nd data and then change 8tb to parity If the 8TB has your data, then you would have to copy it to the 6TB (assuming it will fit of course) before you could reassign the 8TB as parity.
