October 25, 201114 yr Looking for a motherboard for a low power unRAID build, so not using any cards would be good. This is motherboard sections, so I can not ask about power supply to match
October 25, 201114 yr the supermicro atom based server motherboards are very energy efficient especially the D525's. The supermicro boards tend to be very stable. they have 6 sata ports and a PCIe slot so that you can add 8 more for 14 drives total. (the X7SLA-H-O only has 4 ports but can get to 20 sata drives with 2 MV8's. I would not recommend it due to the older 330 design and 2GB memory limit unless you were running plain unraid with no add-ons)
October 25, 201114 yr 2GB is enough to run vanilla unRAID. vanilla unRAID runs in 512MB. with 2GB you can run a few plugins, but anything that uses ram based databasing may be an issue.
October 25, 201114 yr Nearly any Intel motherboard that can handle an i3/i5 CPU will be a good low power combination. The two idle amazingly low, almost on the level of the ATOM cpus while offering a lot of performance should you ever need it.
