I thought using MC would be much faster when moving files between drives in the array? I'm only getting 29MB/sec using MC which is the same I get when using Windows file explorer. I thought the benefit was having the move done right on the server itself.

You are still limited by the rotational speed of two of the three disks involved. (destination, and parity) 

It could be slower if the LAN was involved too.

That is pretty slow. Are you using relatively modern sata drives? Got any syslogs?
