Is there a way to get a CDROM/CD Writer detected and showing up in the system?

 

Upon boot I see the hardware itself is detected, however there is no device node for it.

 

I put one in my server so I could share out CD's when needed or burn images stored on the server with CDRECORD.

 

Seems there are udev rules, yet no device nodes...

 

 

Puzzled.  ???
