Failing Drive..Parity Error..no new drives available: What would you do?

Featured Replies

Ok...I have a friend who has a failing unRAID drive, pending sectors are increasing with each read attempt.  He doesn't have space available on the remaining drives to copy the data over, nor a spare drive to put into the array <increasing drive prices :(>.

Does he have any option other than leaving it in the array and hope for the best?

It would almost be better to remove it and let unRAID simulate the drive.

The next thing I would do is attempt to find some place to put the files, especially if they are important.

BestBuy is selling a 2TB Seagate LP for $80 right now... might want to jump on that while it lasts.

Thanks prostuff...I thought getting the drive out was better as well.  But- forgot you could run (simulate) without having to "initconfig"!
