November 1, 201114 yr Yeah I've posted unRAID as a viable solution already. For home use it makes complete sense. Unless he wants a high performance setup, unRAID is the way to go!
November 1, 201114 yr Author Me too. might have even been you I jumped on the band wagon with ;-) Obviously preaching to the choir, but if someone isn't dead set on having the extra reliability of ZFS, and doesn't need the concurrent performance of stripped arrays (regardless of the actual product used to implement it), I simply can't see any reason to use anything other than unraid. I am reading some of the responses there and am just amazed at some of the stuff being mentioned for what amounts to a home NAS. Stuff I never even heard of in my research when I happened across unRaid when I was disappointed with FreeNAS
