November 10, 201114 yr So I finally got my build put together after a month of troubleshooting to RMAing my power supply. Now that I got my server up and running I have found that my hard drive cages are not working. They don't seem to be getting any power at all. Here is my build. I tried taking the hard drive out and hooking the sata cable directly from the motherboard to the hard drive and the sata power is going through an extension and it worked. I then put it back in the cage (the 3rd slot) with those exact same cables running to 3's power and sata connection and get nothing. It does seem like the fans are working though. Is there anything that I can try or may be missing? There isn't much documentation with them. For power on the top cage I have one molex split into 2 for the first drive. One sata plugged directly in and the other sata plugged in through an extension for drives 2 and 3. For power on the bottom cage I have 2 molexes plugged directly in for power on the top. One sata plugged directly in and the other sata plugged in through an extension for drives 2 and 3. I've only been trying it with one 3TB HD. Thanks for the help! Really appreciate anything I can get because it's been headaches up to this point.
November 10, 201114 yr I see it can take sata style and molex style power, see if there is a jumper or something to choose what one you are using? i am not familiar with that product. You might have to have the lock engaged to work, it also looks like the type of enclosure with power switches for each drive. if so, turn it on.. EDIT: I am assuming this is the unit? http://www.sunnytek.us/files/091611pdf/sac2131b.pdf
November 10, 201114 yr Author Yes, that is the correct unit. So I only need molex or sata power? Not both? Here is the manual http://i.imgur.com/Zt1LP.jpg EDIT - There was a power switch I think I got everything going now. Thanks.
November 10, 201114 yr yeah, i would try just one of the power connector types. 2 molex or 2 15 pin. also those are power switches on the front.. so they need to be on. if it still fails.. try an older drive in there just to see if it is seen (not to add to array).
November 10, 201114 yr Author I didn't press the power buttons! Also now I only have the sata power hooked and it's working. I feel dumb but at least I got it working! Thanks a bunch!
November 10, 201114 yr at least you got it up and running... unraid server = built! edit: that's not a bad looking little 6 drive build you got there. While it's not exactly SFF, it is about as close as you can get and stay on a budget. $300 for a 6 drive build is nice. not to mention you could still upgrade it up to 16 drives with a case swap. I am laughing that it says your hard drives are $279.99 each... I know that's a lie!

I can always upgrade parts on this one vs having to purchase a whole new NAS. Yeah, I got the hard drive for around $125.
