USB 3.0 attached storage under Unraid

Featured Replies

As the title says, does Unraid support or plan to support attached storage via USB 3.0? I'm running out of space to put the drives in my case and wondering if going external attached array via USB 3.0 is viable?

not at this time and probably not anywhere in the near future.

I would suggest eSATA or something eSATA with Port Multipliers.

With USB, you can fudge it, but you cannot retrieve the smart information (or at least cannot that i know).

Also, I doubt unRAID will be able to spin down the drive. However many USB drives have internal controls to do the auto spin down or to keep it active on purpose. (I've seen both).

With eSATA and even eSATA over Port Multipliers, unRAID will function properly.

Just be sure to select a SATA card that supports port Multipliers.
