Can't boot from USB but USB is readable. Possible to make a new USB with all data?

Featured Replies

Hello community,

I recently set up Unraid on a new system. Worked like a charm. Since yesterday I can't boot anymore. dosfsck reported some inconsistencies and resolved them, but I still cannot boot from the USB drive. Some strange I/O error and the partition is not mounted as it should...

I have a backup from 5 days ago but I don't want to use it because a lot changed in the last 5 days.

Since the USB drive is fully readable here's my question:

Can I copy all the data on the USB drive, flash the drive and copy back all my data or do I need to flash the backup from 5 days ago?

You can also try running make_bootable on the flash drive via windows (run as administrator)

What you need to backup and move to the new flash if necessary is the contents of /config

Hey Squid,

thank you for your quick reply.

When I plugged in the USB drive on my Windows PC it was able to repair the discrepancy on the drive.

I can now boot Unraid again.

I also made a new drive and copied the /config directory but luckily I'm not gonna need that anymore.

Thank you! Problem solved :)
