Sounds good! Love modding old cases ;) Have you bought the parts yet or are you just getting an idea?

The motherboard you listed doesn't have onboard video so you'll also need a video card. Also being RTL8111E you may have LAN issues with 5.0b13 (unless this has been sorted?)

760W is a very large PSU for this unit as well and probably wouldn't be the most efficient choice but will give you heaps of head room to expand. 8GB Ram is also a bit overkill but a lot of people are going that way now purely because of the price, so not really any point in changing that anyway.

Personally I love Seagate LP's, I've got 6 at the moment (5 installed) and they're quick, quiet and cool. They're a little slow to spin up but most green drives are.

Do you have any future plans for this build?

Pics! Kgo.

well chickensoup, the future plan for this build is to have a good centralized file server.

I have an HTPC that I want to stream movies etc. to,

I also have 2 other PC in the house that I would like to have a single point of data store from.

I got tired of copy this/ copy that  to new drive every time  my PC goes on strike and I need to rebuild

(happens more often then you would think)

I also like the ability to rip my videos and CDs from any machine I have available and have all of that show up on my HTPC with no efforts :-)

as for modding  cases, well don't get too excited, nothing extraordinary will happen  here.

I only plan to paint it to make it nice and clean (very old case, spent few years in my garage, lots of dirt and rust on it.) and maybe if I find the materials add custom drive cage for more future drive capability. or maybe I will just cave-in and buy a new case later  :P

MB was chosen because it have 6 x SATA 6Gb/s on board

and good number of expansion slots for me.

network chip set is OK now with 5.0 beta 13, I already run it and it working very nicely

CPU and RAM is a bit overkill but they were on sale

$60 for Phenon II quad core retail pack (with coller) is good deal I think

$40 for kingston 8GB PC1600 RAM is good aswell.

PSU - well yeah, it is a bit too much but if I want to expand it is better overall to have the capacity

this PSU seams to be a very good deal though. 760W 60A single rail,  80 Silver certified for $70 (after I get my rebate)  or $90 if I don't

comes with 8 SATA connectors (2 strand of 4) + 7 molex

the only gripe is it is not modular  and the wires are very stiff. not sure what I will do if I need to put a drive cage into one of the 5.25 cage space.
