New Server network and write speed.....please comment

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I just started transferring data to the new server:

- MB: Supermicro x9SCMF

- 8GB DDR3 Kingstone memory

-Intel Xeon 3.2 GHZ processore

- Hitachi 3TB drives ( 6)

- using built in LAN port

- Cisco small business SG200-26 switch

During the preclear I was getting speeds 120-130 MB/sec towards the begininning of the disk and 70 MB/s towards the ends with all disks being precleared .

Now while transferring the data from my desktop over the network- on Windows console I see the speed of 18 MB/sec. In unmenu  the  network performance varies between 5000 KB/s to 33000 KB/s as it refreshes every second  . I am transferring 24 GB folder of pictures to "picture" share. Under disk performance on unmenu , it seems like data is being written on sda and sdb and the total speed varies between 30000 KB/s to 60000 KB/sec, divided  half and half between two disks, so sda and sdb speeds vary 15000 to 30000 KB/s. I have intel PRO gigabit NIC which I used in my previous unraid tower. Do you think I will get better speeds with that? I was hoping to use both the Supermicro LAN ports once I have more clearer idea on how to do port bonding in unraid and on the switch?

Thanks

Mani
