Blade Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 I usually use WD20EARS drives in my unraid tower but I will not pay $200 for one because of the flooding in Thailand. Are there any other hard drive makers that are not trying to gouge us on their prices? I am in need of some hard drives but will wait if I have to. Anyone know of any cheaper hard drives that work fine in unraid? Thx
vl1969 Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 well I am building my with Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB but they are also $150+ right now.
Rajahal Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 There are basically only two companies that manufacture 3.5" hard drives. WD owns Hitachi, and Seagate owns Samsung. Since WD was hit much harder by the floods, you can expect Seagate to rebound faster and to lead the market in drives for quite a while. Seagate has also raised prices to match the short supply/high demand, but Seagate drives currently are and will continue to be the cheapest option for the next several months at least.
