How to clear drive

Featured Replies

Hi,

if I add an aready used drive to unRAID a lengthy process starts to clear the drive. If I would like to clear such a disk before putting it into the array what command do I need to use?

Many thanks in advance.

Harald

Hey that would be a nice feature.  Our 'factory clear' script just clears the drive using 'dd' command and then writes an unRAID-specific MBR with a type field that indicates "factory cleared".  We'll put this script into the next release.

We'll put this script into the next release.

Hey, good news.

Currently one of my new Samsung drives reports 849 relocated sectors. So my idea was to use one of my older drives, connect it at the eSATA port, mount it, clear it and then swap both drives. I think this process would be faster because there's no array downtime during clear.

Regards

Harald

Did this get included?  (I have 2 new drives on order and would like to try this out if it is available)
