Amazon/Costco - APC BX1000G UPS $99.99

Featured Replies

Great deal!  Tempted, but I already have one protecting my home theater system.  Fantastic UPS.

FYI,

That costco is everyday price. they have had that for $99 forever.

It is mailorder only for most. the local costco stores carry a different brand (I think it was cyberpower). at least in Chicago.

I do not have a a ups on anything in my house. I am thinking the first place I should put one is on my server and main pc that is next to my server. Would this ups be good enough to protect both products?

Also should I have a ups for router, switch and modem? What about tv's with pc's hooked up to them. Just looking for opinions thank you

Personally I have the following on UPS

(1) Xbox, PS3, Sat/DVR and HTPC

(2) Daily Windows Machine, Router, Switch, Wifi

(3) unRAID Machine

My Xbox, PS3, Sat/DVR and HTPC are never on at the same time so I'm never worried about taxing my UPS more than it should. Well can't say much about the DVR since it does whatever it wants when it needs too.

My 2nd UPS gets a little beat up, but if need be it can shut it all down if there is a power outage that lasts longer than 30minutes

My 3rd is running only my unRAID machine and I made sure of that simply because I want it to stay on the longest it can before it has to shut down.

I didn't buy all these UPS's all at the same time. It was more or less I purchased them when the time arose when I had to. I had a power outage once that knocked out my Big Screen TV and my spare TV in another room. To this date I don't know how it did it even with surge protectors, but now I don't take any chances with my PC's.

That depends on the power consumption of your server and PC.  We need more info before we can offer you any advice.  This will almost certainly be enough for your server, and chances are good that it will be enough to cover your PC as well.  If you care about not losing your network connection during a power outage, then yes you should have your router, switch, and modem on a UPS as well.  Same goes for TVs and HTPCs.  A properly grounded surge protector should be enough to protect these devices from damage, but a UPS will allow them to keep running for a few minutes.
