lishpy
If you open the external drive case your warranty is void. It's not like 3 years ago, no more multi year warranties on these internal drives, it's on the whole package. Not worth it to me to drop $100 if it's not gonna be covered under warranty. c3
Don't worry, its sold out online, not available in stores... Quote Link to comment
bubbaQ
I picked up one of these, and am (so far) using it in its original external USB3 configuration. I'm 33% into a full wipe. It started at 160MB/sec, and at 33%, it is still doing 145MB/sec. Unlike the WD MyBook externals, the Seagate does NOT return SMART data via USB3.... however, there are some options I have not tried yet (have to wail until the wipe is done). Quote Link to comment
Datapotomus
I just checked and I guess the price went back up to 220 bucks :'( Quote Link to comment

WeeboTech
I was ultimately able to read SMART data off this drive: How? Quote Link to comment
bubbaQ
Smartctl does not like the USB bridge they use... I was able to get some data with smartctl -d scsi. But also, I don't have USB3 on any Linux boxes currently. Finally, on a Windoze box (Win7x64) CrystalDiskInfo was able to get the SMART data. Quote Link to comment
