Moving setup from pool to array

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I’ve some searching and can’t seem to find what I’m looking for. Also, I apologise in advance if this is a dumb question:

Background: I wanted to try out Unraid with some existing parts I had laying around before pulling the trigger on purchasing mass HDD’s. I setup Unraid with only a pool using one 4TB SSD (dummy USB in the array). I’m now in love with Unraid and want to do a proper setup.

Question: I am not going to pull the trigger and purchase 3 HDD’s to get me started with a proper setup and expand from there. My question is… What is the best way to move my entire setup (media, apps, etc) from a pool to a new array without having to start all over again? I also want to convert the SSD into a cache after transferring everything to the array.

If this is not possible, I’m happy to bite the bullet and start from scratch. Advice on best direction would be greatly appreciated

By the way, please directly me to the correct section if I have selected the incorrect section for this topic.

Thanks for the reply @trurl I will have a read through the link you provided and try and get my head around it all but basically you are saying leave the important system stuff on the pool and other things like media can be stored on the array?

Can I do all of the setup changes without starting from scratch. Eg just add the 3 new HDD’s into a new array and adjust the configuration where required?

Also, I have attached my diagnostics as requested. Hopefully I did that right

Yes.

Good to know. Thanks for confirming this.

I’ll have a read through the links trurl provided and see if I can work out how to do this properly.

I’m not too deep into my setup so I don’t really mind starting from scratch if it will make the reconfiguration easier. I’ll weigh up my options once I have a proper read through the links. But just knowing there is a way to do it without starting from scratch is helpful to know
