March 19, 200818 yr I'm new here, so I apologize if this has been addressed. I did search first, but could not find an answer. I have 5 250GB drives in my unraid server, 3 of which report the temp and have a green light, the other two, which both happen to be Western Digital WD2500YD blink green and do not show a temperature (they show *). If I force spin up, still blink green. If I write a file to the disks still blink green. I guess everything is working, it's just odd. I am running 4.3 beta 3 Thanks for any input.
March 19, 200818 yr Drives that have spun down will blink green. Drives that are spun down can not have their temperature read, therefore, the temp is reported as "*" If you read or write to a drive, it will spin up. The browser will not automatically update, but should show new status if you hit its refresh button. If you just read from a drive, and it is still flashing, as if it is sleeping, I have no idea... especially if everything else is working. Joe L.

March 20, 200818 yr Author Thanks for the replies. Rob, when i try that smartctl the same thing happens, the two WD drives blink regardless of what I do. But, I can issue the -s off option and they go back to solid green. The specs say those drives have SMART, so i'm not sure what the issue is.
