April 10, 20242 yr Hi 🙂 How reliable is it to have unRAID with parity operating as a VM in Proxmox?? Just built a nice box hoping unRAID will VM Windows and macOS easily. But having lots of issues setting up unRAID VMs, so I'm looking to virtualise unRAID. Live in a bushfire area, so need to grab just one box and go. We also do weekly data backups to another unRAID machine. Mainly use unRAID as a NAS with internal only access to Nextcloud & OnlyOffice and our own Rustdesk server. Proxmox for light 3D simulator gaming and the workhorse is macOS (we live in the Apple eco-system). That's it in a nutshell 😄 (We live in a bushfire area, so we need to grab just one box and go.)
April 11, 20242 yr It's been great until I resized my disk in proxmox and now unraid is super pissed lol.. trying to restore from backup rn. Seriously tho it's been running great. (Especially if this next restore works lol)
May 6, 20242 yr Anecdotally, I have had issues. I have a forum topic open around this right now. Though, sounds like there are many others without issue!
May 6, 20242 yr Have 2x Unraid instances (and some other VMs) under a single Proxmox server, running about 1.3 PB without issue for the last 12 months. All storage is passed through via HBA / PCIe, so just as easy as bare metal to manage and could be reverted easily if needed.
May 9, 20242 yr Correcting myself now - Unraid is reliable under Proxmox. Where you might encounter issues is if you deploy scripts, like Monitor-All, without fully understanding them. Remember: the computer does exactly what you told it to do.
