Server is unreachable after ~30 minutes (USB Ethernet)

Featured Replies

Hi!

I'm new to Unraid and I am having a problem where after 30 or so minutes, the server is unreachable and has to be rebooted.

I setup the Syslog server and attached the log. The USB network adapter seems to be dropping out, but I can't find out why.

I was running the same system before with Ubuntu with no issues.

I've tried: bare bones with nothing running, RTL8152 Drivers, different USB port, Fix Common Problems.

Thanks!

I cannot find an official listing of the chipset for the adapter I am using, but this is the Amazon page.

The RTL8156(B) USB Drivers is the one I had already installed; the name in the plugin page is different but it is the same driver (app).

In between now and my original post, I restarted once while changing nothing else and now it stopped crashing. I will respond in the morning if it is unreachable again.

Ah kk perfect. Apologies I started to doubt my response. But I'm glad we're getting some traction on this.

Update:
Server was unresponsive when I woke up. Attached is syslog.

I noticed that the ethernet adapter lights showed a link, but no activity.

I am trying the "Tips and Tweaks" plugin now to disable NIC Flow Control and NIC Offload.

Update:

Still gets unreachable. I've been reading up on the r8152 chipset, and I'm seeing some other people with recent issues on other platforms in regards to random disconnects.

In their cases, some had no issue with reboots and some had to reboot as well. I'm going to just get a different adapter with a different chipset and see if that resolves the problem.

Update:

I realized that the USB error correlated to when something power-related happened in the same room i.e. computer sleep. The server is actually a mini-pc and I believe it was susceptible to the smallest power surges. After putting it on an UPS, I haven't had an issue so far. Very strange that only that USB device dropped out.
