Docker Instability and Performance Issues Affecting System and Containers

I'm new to unraid and have a some performance issues that I don't really understand.

Setup

Unraid: 6.12.10

Hardware:

  • Celeron J4105 CPU
  • 16 GiB DDR4 Memory
  • Cache: Corsair Force MP510 240 GB M.2 SSD nvme0n1
  • Parity: WDC My Passport WD40NMZW 4 TB
  • Disk 1: Seagate Mobile HDD ST2000LM007 2 TB
  • Disk 2: WDC My Passport WD10TMVW-11ZSMS5 1 TB

I am aware that this is not an ideal setup and I cannot expect too much from the hardware. It has more of a POC character for me.
Nevertheless, the performance falls far below its capabilities.

The Problem

My server is currently hosting a nextcloud server and the associated PostgreSQL db, each in a Docker container. I

have installed other containers, but these are not started.

The settings are largely the default values. I have only configured the array and made basic network settings such as default gateway, DNS and NTP.

The performance of the system is unsatisfactory. Although it is actually idle, the response times are really bad.
On my laptop, I have moved my Lightroom directory to the Nextcloud directory and synchronise the files with the Nextcloud server. The transfer rate varies greatly. At times > 350MB/s, then again at other times a few KB/s. The sync is constantly cancelling and restarting.
The system looks very busy in the dashboard,

whereas at the same time it looks completely different on the console.

Sometimes it takes minutes to load the Docker tab.
In some cases only the page frame is loaded, but no content

In this case, the Docker box in the dashboard is also not loaded or remains empty.

When I tried to start a third container, it would not start. Instead it looked like this:

When I tried to stop a container, the system did not respond at all and did not even accept a reboot command, so in despair I initiated a reboot in the console.

What I have tried

I have followed the suggestions in Need help? Read me first!.

The Fix Common Problems plugin did not find any Errors, it just suggested activating some notifications, which I did.

Changing all cables, the USB hub and using different USB ports did not help.

An upgrade from Unraid 6.12.8 to 6.12.10 during the troubleshooting did not bring any change either.

In both cases the problem occurs when the client is connected to the same swich as the Server through cable, or it is connected to the router through Wi-Fi.
I also don't see any temporal connection between the problems and other events in the network.
