Enigma8833 Posted April 16, 2024 Posted April 16, 2024 So I did have backups, however I was a moron and have them on the unassigned drives. Never got around to moving that backup to somewhere safe, it was on the list to do.. Now that my flash drive self erased, I don't know the assignments. Is there a safe way to choose what drives are assigned and not risk losing my data? I have the server back up, with the license moved over to the new drive now. So I think the last thing I need is to just get the drives assigned so I can reinstall my plugins and get my data back up and running? Quote
Solution itimpi Posted April 16, 2024 Solution Posted April 16, 2024 Do you know which drives(s) are parity drives? You will only lose data if you accidentally assign a data drive as a parity drive. If you are not sure then follow the procedure documented here in the online documentation accessible via the Manual link at the bottom of the Unraid GUI. In addition every forum page has a DOCS link at the top and a Documentation link at the bottom. Having said that you say the backups are on an unassigned drive? Even with nothing assigned to the array I think you can still download the Unassigned Devices plugin and then mount such a drive to get at your backups. Quote
Enigma8833 Posted April 16, 2024 Author Posted April 16, 2024 There were multiple references to restoring without a backup. I did not keep going to find all the additional ones. I was able to restore and am now performing a parity check. Thank you, I was able to use the Unassigned drives plugin to get the backups which were useless anyway. The server would not boot from them. But I was able to grab enough information from the backups to restore the most important things to me, the rest I will recover in time. Quote
