[6.12.10] Read SMART data failed

Featured Replies

Installed Plugins:

- Tips and Tweaks

Hardware:
- Motherboard: ASUS Z170-AR
- CPU: i7-6700K
- PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA G2
- HDD (dev1): WD Red 4TB (bought new, but I've used it in another Windows PC)
- HDD (dev2): WD Ultrastar DC HC530 14TB (bought recertified and this is the first time I've plugged it in)

Problem:
WD Ultrastar DC HC530 14TB
(1) Running the SMART extended self-test immediately stops after clicking Start
- Attribute name: Read smart data failed
- Flag: scsi error badly formed scsi parameters
(2) Temperature is being reported as "*"

What I've done to attempt fixes:
- I've tried two different SATA cables and ports
- I've tried researching the error, but it's hard for me to parse the information/the issue(s) other people are having is different than mine
- I ran Fix Common Problems:
    - I just needed to enable notifications for various things (which I did)
    - The only thing remaining is that it's telling me the Array is not started (see More context below)

More context:
Basically, I don't know what I don't know. This is my first time using UNRAID and I wanted to make sure my drives passed the SMART test before I built the array. My WD Red passed and is reporting the temperature at ~28C. I also wanted to make sure I didn't misconfigure something, etc. before I go through with a warranty claim on the Ultrastar.

Thank you for any help.

Disk is not giving a valid SMART report, if you have already replaced cables it's likely a disk problem:
