first unraid built...need help. going crazy!

Hi,

I just build my first unraid server last night, and it has been fighting me the whole way.  My firs issue was buying a Gigabyte Z68 board with Realtek 8111E.  After reading the forums I went with Beta 5 v14.

I currently have two 2TB WD greens, a 1TB WD green, and a 500gb hitachi drive.  I have one of the 2TB greens aside for use as a parity drive.  I current have parity drive unassigned as I am copying over all of my data and read it is faster to leave this unassigned (I still have copies of all of my data on the other computers).

My issue is I had disk 1 as the Hitachi 500gig and disk 2 as a 2TB WD green.  I want to make disk 1 the 1TB WD green drive instead of the Hitachi (the hitachi is formatted but does not have any data on it).  On the "main" tab on the web interface there is no "unassign" choice in the drive dropdown menus.  If I choose anything other than the Hitachi for disk 1 it gives a "wrong" label below it.  The array is stopped.  I have tried rebooting a few times as well.

I have read online about a "devices" tab but do not see this in beta 14..maybe it does not exist?  I need a way to remove the500gig Hitachi and make disk 1 the 1TB green.  I have also tried unplugging the Hitachi and rebooting but it still exists in the dropdown menu.

any help would be great!  I really want to get my movies/etc moved over and then start figuring out how to get mediabrowser/HTPC using the unraid server.

thanks!

On 5.0beta14 look under the Utils tab.  There's a button marked New Config.  Note that the array must be stopped to use this.  Once you've cleared the current configuration, shutdown from the Main tab to power off, unplug any unwanted drives, power up and then you should be able to reassign the drives as you wish.
