replacing a drive

Featured Replies

Alright, so I finally got my case and started setting up unraid.

Setup the initial array all was well, dumped my data overnight.

I had two 160g sata drives mirrored using nvRAID's drivers on a windows box. 1 of these 160's went to unraid, the other would become my new non mirrored windows install drive.

After some trouble with the drive I was using for the windows install I decided to swap them (good time to try out the replacement feature too!).

I followed the wiki:

http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Replacing_a_Data_Drive

Following replacement I went into the web management page and disk2 had 2 drives listed the old and new, and the status read invalid configuration. The new disk did not have a blue dot as stated, possibly because of the old nvraid descripter area on the disk??

syslog had a bunch of entries that read "md2: wrong disk"

I just want to make sure this is the proper procedure. Should I have stopped the array, went to devices and changed disk2 to unassigned first before powered down to replace the drive?

Thanks in advance, I'm rebuilding the array now. I broke it to the point where all data was gone, luckily I still have my old data drives not in the array.....yet ;)

Did you have a parity drive installed?    It sounds like you only had the one data drive installed, and then replaced it with the other.

haha yeah, I didn't go into the whole setup, but maybe that would help, the post was already long enough as is ;)

2 500g sata - 1 parity

1 320g sata

1 160g sata

2 120g ide

1 100g ide

Not in the array

1 320g sata

1 320g ide

1 160g sata

"Not in the array" 160g sata got swapped with the "in the array" 160g
