I need some help choosing a motherboard since i want to salvage as much as i can i am currently using a AMD Sempron 140 Sargas 2.7GHz with a ASUS M4A785-M for low power consumption. I just recently read that the ASUS M4A785-M  has some issues with the supermicro MV8 SAS cards and i only have 2 more sata connections available and one hard drive and new case are on its way i have a licensed unraid pro key. My new case should be able to support the max amount of hard drives but my motherboard wont. So to wrap it up can anyone suggest any motherboard or mobo+cpu combo to be able to have the max amount of drives and if i can keep my ram or cpu that would be awesome. My psu is a CORSAIR Professional Series HX650 i hope this one can run the max amount of hard drives as well any input would be appreciated thanks.

Rather than dropping a working motherboard, you might consider other controllers.

Which one's would you recommend? And what would be the most Hdd i could get off this mobo?

For the PCI slots:

And, yes it is not fast, but that is mostly a factor during rebuilds.

I am hijacking this thread a bit.  I just ordered this card from Monoprice-- (The price really seems very reasonable to add SATA capability to an older mother board that I use as a test box.)  Does it work right out of the box or did you have to flash the BIOS?  If so, do you recall which version of the BIOS flash that you used.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

They should be plug-n-play, no need to flash the BIOS.
