May 3, 20242 yr Hello, what is the recommended amount of RAM. In which boundries is the rule of thumb 1GB for each 1TB valid? I think about a scenario with 6 drives each 18TB RAIDZ-1 / RAID5. So the total size is 108 TB - but 108 GB RAM seems like a lot... Does a cache SSD reduce the required RAM or does it just increase speeds? Thanks for answers

Not really, but ZFS performance can benefit if you give more RAM for the ARC, of course also depending on the use case, e.g., a media server which will be mainly streaming always different movies won't really benefit from a large ARC.
