Did my NIC just die?

Featured Replies

Hi - after running my preclear script, shutting down the server, I can no longer get connection upon re-start of the server.  (pretty sure the preclear script has nothing to do with the issue but thought I'd mention it.)

Here's what I know, and what I've checked already.

- ran "ifconfig eth0", no IP address appears

- There are no lights coming on at the Mobo NIC (Biostar A880GU3). Also, there is only one NIC port.

- Tested cable: ok

- Tested Router Ports: ok

- Checked BIOS: ok, NIC enabled.  Reviewed Mobo manual to see if there were any other settings I missed relating to NIC, and there are none.

- Reset/cleared CMOS: ok. No change.

- installed fresh Unraid 4.7 on brand new USB key in case driver was corrupted.  No change.

Is it dead? Any ideas?

thanks in advance.

sounds like it

That's the main purpose of those little lights.  You only have 3 possibilities - your NIC, the router port, and the cable.  If 2 of those are OK, then ...

Your only option is to add a network card.

Thanks, guys.  I RMA'd the board and bought a new one..I don't want a separate NIC to consume PCI slots. Need those for SATA controller cards in future!

BTW, the new one is a Asus M4N68T-M V2 and works well with Unraid. I need to let somebody know to update the Mobo compatibility table, as it's not there.

And add a minus to the Biostar one that's listed there.
