Used Pre-clear on disks but array says disks are "unmountable: unsupported partion layout"

Featured Replies

performed pre-clear and one drive failed, but the rest pre-cleared successfully. Added the disks to the array, went to start it up and it doesn't seem to be working. Tried to setup as a new config (I got ahead of myself initially and stopped that array to pre-clear all the drives) but now doesn't seem to be working.

Any ideas?

what you see is "normal"

Preclear really wiped the disks, they have neither a partition table, nor do they contain any filesystems.

(BTW: if you wanted to create a new array anyway, preclear was not necessary at all. It only helps to check for possibly damaged blocks and disks)

What you need to do now is to start the array (yeah, it says "unmountable", thats perfectly fine!), then take another look at the "start array" page.

It will now contain a listbox with all drives that could not be mounted (in your case: ALL), you can select the wanted drives and then hit the "format" button just right to the listbox.

This will create a valid partition table and a filesystem on those drives.

BUT BEWARE! You have set the filesystemtype to "AUTO" this means, unraid pick the filesystemtype that will be created.

You can select the type BEFORE on the system settins/disk settings page. (BEWARE 2: zfs is currently NO GOOD CHOICE for array drives, stick to xfs, thats safe).

But maybe before you should check why sdl (the failed drive) did not pass preclear test. And hopefully fix it.
