Cache Drive Failure, Opportunity to Change?

Featured Replies

So I currently have a BTRFS pool for my cache drive with 3 500GB NVME drives, one drive failed and the second is now tossing out errors, I am working off borrowed time. All my app data is backed up to the array, which is the only data that I used the cache drive for, or so I assumed until I look and the system share shows cache<array.

I have three new 1TB drive in my possession and I wonder, if I am only using the drives for app data and VM's should I be doing this setup differently?, while I try and keep updated on the the new features and changes, the server has always just worked and thats the primary function, just curious to see other options and what other people are doing.

If needed, server specs are, threadripper 1950X, ASRock X399 Phantom Gaming 6, 64GB of ram, storage is at 71TB.

Thanks.

This is normally what you want as having that share on a pool is best from a performance viewpoint.   You do want, though to have the Appdata Backup plugin configured to save the VM Metadata.    The other standard content of that share is the docker.img file but that can easily be recreated in minutes if needed so does not need backing up.
