fstrim -v on flash drive

Featured Replies

Hello, my flash drive support TRIM:

Quote

hdparm -I /dev/sda | grep TRIM
           *    Data Set Management TRIM supported (limit 8 blocks)
           *    Deterministic read ZEROs after TRIM

vfat support trim since kernel 4.19 so it would be nice to use it on my flash drive as well.

fstrim -v refuse to work on /boot:

Quote

fstrim -v /boot
fstrim: /boot: the discard operation is not supported

Do i point it toward the wrong directory?

Greetings and thank you in advance.

This should work with v6.13 if the flash drive supports UASP.

On 6.12.10 UASP driver seems not do be used here.

Edit: here are the related logs to the flash drive:

But it will be with v6.13, and that allows trim, again, assuming the USB device supports UASP

sda is an SSD connected via USB bridge with UASP support with v6.13-beta:

does this also mean that we finally can get away from those evil, nasty and dangerous USB Sticks and soon run off UNRAID from a "real" SSD ? ? ?

This is unrelated to that, and I'm not aware of any plans to switch from flash drives at the moment.

UASP and fstrim works fine on the 7.0.0-beta.1, closing the thread for now.
