May 16, 20242 yr Hi, I have replaced a parity disk with another (larger) one. While the new parity disk is re-built, one of the data disks died. The entry of the data disk is "no device", and it shows up as an unassigned device. I shut down the machine to see what are my options. Can I just put back the old parity drive, put a new drive for the data disk, and re-built that disk? Thanks in advance
May 16, 20242 yr Community Expert If nothing was written to the array during the parity build and you are using xfs, it's usually possible, confirm and I can post the instructions.
May 16, 20242 yr Author yes, the array was not mounted during the "creation" of the new parity disk. I added the array description: sdh is the new parity disk being re-built, sdl the "old" parity disk, and sdk the data disk that died. I was thinking of putting sdl back again as parity, and sdh as the disk 8 to be re-built. Does that make sense? And as a noob, instructions would be great Thanks in advance
May 16, 20242 yr Community Expert Before doing this you can also see if it was a cable/connection issue and post the diags. To try the rebuild: -Tools -> New Config -> Retain current configuration: All -> Apply -Check all assignments and assign any missing disk(s) if needed, including the old parity and the new disk8, replacement disk should be same size or larger than the old one -IMPORTANT - Check both "parity is already valid" and "maintenance mode" and start the array (note that the GUI will still show that data on parity disk(s) will be overwritten, this is normal as it doesn't account for the checkbox, but it won't be as long as it's checked) -Stop array -Unassign disk8 -Start array (in normal mode now) and post the diags
