My First "Array has failed device" Error. Is this drive dead, or can it be repaired?

Recommended Posts

Hi Unraid Forum!

I've been running an unraid server for a few years and just experienced my first disk error. It's a server with 3 data drives + 1 parity drive + 1 cache drive. The drive that is showing 2 errors is the one with the fewest number of reads/writes... 133k reads vs 4-5 million reads for the other data drives. Could you tell me if I need to replace the drive, and if not how to repair it to function properly? The drive showed as Healthy on the last SMART test. I ran a "file system check" on the failed drive under Unassigned Disk Devices, and File System Corruption was detected. I ran with Corrected Flag and a "Dirty log" was detected. I am hesitant to click the Force Log Zeroing button if it will result in data loss. I've attached the diagnostics file.

All the data and parity drives are 4TB Seagate IronWolf 4TB NAS drives, most purchased at slightly different times. Of the 12 TB of storage, only 2.91 TB are left, so I was already planning for an upgrade. However, if I need to rebuild the array, I'll need to use a 4 TB drive to fix the array.

Any feedback is appreciated.
