Unraid crashing with no errors in the logs

Featured Replies

I've been having an issue for the past few months off and on where unraid will crash and not leave any information about the crash in the logs. I've even set unraid to copy the the logs to the flash drive, but still nothing. When it crashes, it just has a black screen and is unresponsive, even through idrac. The only solution is a hard reset. I don't see any hardware errors in idrac, but i have seen an occasional CPU error in the syslogs so I think it could be a CPU problem. Did a full memtest86 on it for 6+ hours with no errors found. I upgraded to 6.12.10 and have changed my docker network type to ipvlan. Not really sure what else to do at this point and I'm hoping someone who knows more than me can help me figure this out!

System specs:
Dell PowerEdge R640

Dual 10 core Xeon Silver 4114 CPUs @ 2.20GHz (but just ordered 2x 20 core XEON GOLD 6148s)

144GB DDR4 ECC

Tesla P4 GPU

104TB of storage with 1 parity disk.

Without anything relevant logged there's not much for us to go on, it could be a hardware issue, one thing you can try is to boot the server in safe mode with all docker containers/VMs disabled, let it run as a basic NAS for a few days, if it still crashes it's likely a hardware problem, if it doesn't start turning on the other services one by one.

Finally figured it out. A few months ago i had a failing memory module that took me a while to diagnose and would occasionally crash the system. The flash drive must have had some sort of corruption on it from the crashes. Replacing the flash drive fixed my problems.
