Guest Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 Hello, adding a new Drive freezes my System. If I stop the Array, then select the new Drive, then select Yes I want to do this / Start The System instantly freezes. After a reboot the new Disks are gone and I can repeat it..... Any Idea?
RobJ Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 To help you, we need to see your syslog, a syslog that covers the period when this occurred. Please see my sig for the Troubleshooting link, for help with capturing a syslog. It also would be useful to obtain a SMART report for the problem drive(s).
Joe L. Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Hello, adding a new Drive freezes my System. If the drive had not been pre-cleared, the behavior you are describing is expected as unrAID clears the newly added drive. That process writes zeros to the entire drive, typically between 100MB/s and 75MB/s. At the higher rate, that is 10 seconds per GB, or 20,000 seconds for a 2TB drive. (5.55 hours) During those 5.55 hours your server will not be online. (It is why pre-clearing is highly suggested, as the down-time is typically only a few minutes)
Guest Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Yepp, that was the solution. The Progess is only shown lin the bottom left corner. This was out of the Screen im my case. I'm using a wall mounted tft for my servers. According to the distance to the Monitor I have changed the Font Size, this has caused the problem. regards Matthias
