ashaneil Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Anyone have any experiences with either of the drives below? I have 4 of the WD and 1 Seagate drive would like to use them if possible. Western Digital WD20EURS (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136783) Seagate ST320005N4A1AS -- x1 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148487) Thanks
Rajahal Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Both drives should be fine to use with unRAID. The Seagates I've used personally and they work well. They do run a bit hotter than other green drives, but they also spin faster and provide a small bump in performance, so the tradeoff is fair. I recommend using the Seagate as your parity drive. I have no personal experience with the EURS drives, but they shouldn't give you any trouble. They are supposedly 'AV' drives, meaning that they are meant for the hotter environments found in DVRs. I wouldn't recommend buying them as this 'feature' is a waste of money in the unRAID environment, but since you already have them there's no reason not to use them in your unRAID server.
ashaneil Posted December 23, 2011 Author Posted December 23, 2011 Thanks Raj for your post. I had given up on anyone know about the EURS drives. Cheers
