krackato Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Hey guys, I've been enjoying my unRAID build for a while now. One of my drives (or maybe more but I think it's only 1) is clicking. What do you do at this point to identify which one it is? I tried to figure it out by reading this thread here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=3435.0 but sadly it went a little over my head. The suggestion consisted of "Post a syslog", "Run smartctl -H on each one", and "unMENU has the smartctl report built in too." Is there anyone who could give me somewhat clearer directions as a lot of my unRAID "skills" seem to have vanished and I can't even figure out how to get into unmenu or how to run smartctl at all. Or if there's a more up to date procedure of what to do, please let me know. K
trurl Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 I'll let those more experienced help with unRAID specific advice, but here is an old trick for locating the source of sounds: Put the tip of a screwdriver against the component and the handle in your ear. If it is the component making the sound it will be obvious. If not move on to another component.
