[SOLVED]PLEX and Shares setup confusion

Featured Replies

First, being totally new to all of this, I really don't understand the shares and split share thing.  I've seen the diagrams that have been posted, but I don't have a clue how to set them up on my tower.  I don't know if Unmenu would help as I haven't loaded it yet.

I am using my old Macbook Pro with PLEX to connect to my TV.  I have 3 shares set up in my Unraid tower.  I simply have Movies, Music and Data shares.  Is there any reason to break the shares down any further?  I am running 4.7 and it seems to work okay so far.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have the following shares:

Blu-ray

Sd movies

Music

Picture

TV shows

It makes it easier for plex and other media readers (wd tv live).

U can have as many shares as u want

The more you have, the more specific u can be with everything.

UnRaid doesn't really care about shares. You can have as many or as few as you like. Plex likes to have Movies, TV Shows and Music in separate folders, but doesn't like things organized any further, although it will deal with them. For instance I have a "Television" share, and have my shows organized by genre (comedy, drama, etc.), and Plex has no problems drilling down and finding all the shows, but the instructions for Plex Media Server specifically state that the scraper doesn't work as well as if you leave everything under a single folder. But I don't always use Plex, and I have a lot of TV shows, and I don't want to be endlessly scrolling to get to what I want.

Thanks for the replies, kingpin and kenoka, I think I have a better understanding now and was just making more to it than needed.
