so i have a coupe 3tb usb drives that I would like to get off my desk but still have access to them. is it possible to plug them into my unraid machine and have full access to the drive from any pc on my network?

 

 

I realize this drive will be unprotected.

It's possible, but requires some commands manually or using the SNAP tool.

 

One point to consider, usually usb drives do not spin down if they are connected to a live machine.

 

I remember there being special SCSI commands to do the spin down, but I'm not sure if the unraid kernel supports it.
