June 5, 20242 yr Is it possible to have one server with the HD acting as the parity disk, for another server (QNAP, flashed with UnraiD OS) with 4 hard drives? iIn other words can the parity disk be on a separate box? And is it possible to have the parity ‘see’ the other disks over Ethernet, or does it have to be DAS, and not NAS? Please forgive my ignorance if this has been answered before, however my google searches didn’t find an answer.

June 5, 20242 yr Author Thanks for your reply! In which case, I can’t use QNAP for storage, and unraid for parity? QNAP has to boot with some kind of OS.

June 5, 20242 yr Author Right. So I need to find a 1u short depth enclosure, and build a 1u mini itx server, and connect the two using SAS. This was unraid will see the disks in the enclosure, and use thr 2 disks in the server for parity. Got it. I need to learn about mini sas, and how to connect them to a mobo.
