Change Hardware configuration

Featured Replies

Hi experts,

i use the unraid server since 1 1/2 years (pro license) and i'm very happy with it. Currently my configuration have 6 discs (1 parity and 5 data (all dics WD20EARS)) with unraid version 4.7.

After christmas i would make me a little present and i've bought new hardware :-)

Supermicro Controller AOC-SASLP-MV8 and SUPERMICRO X7SPA-HF-D525 Motherboard

Now i've the challenge to create my new server. Can i do this without reformat my discs?

What are your recommendations to update from the old hardware to the new?

Is this way possible?

- start old unraid server

- write down the sequence of my discs

- reset the parity drive with "initconfig"

- put usb device and the drives to the new server and start up (can i use my old configuration on usb device?)

- configure network, network aso if required

- configure the disc devices and sort in the right sequence

- bring array online and recreate parity

The other way is very strange...

- put the usb device in the new server (with a new unraid beta version or an initial 4.7 version)

- put only the old parity drive (from old server) in the new server as "disc1"

- copy from old "disc1" to new server "disc1" -> after the old "disc1" is empty, put this old "disc1" in the new server as "disc2" and copy the old "disc2" to new "disc2" and so on and so on...

What is the best way to change from hardware1 to hardware2?

Thanks for you help and sorry for my english.

BR

Dirk

I don't think you have to "reset the parity drive with "initconfig"".

just move the disks and USB to new server and reassign in the correct order - it might do this automatically.
