Help Troubleshooting Slow Transfer Speeds on my 1st NAS

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I'm brand new to unraid and NAS in general. I finished setting up my NAS a few days ago repurposing an old gaming PC and adding a bunch of SAS drives with an LSI controller. I have been pretty disappointed with the transfer speeds I'm getting. A few examples:

1. Time Machine backup of 466GB took almost ~72 hours

2. Copying my Photos library of 130GB took ~48 hours

I'm looking for guidance on how to improve the situation in general. I'd be happy to run test or provide any information needed to help me troubleshoot the issue. Again, I'm a noob when it comes to networks and NAS, but other than that I'm generally tech savvy.

Thank you in advance!

I assume you are using a Mac? See here if this helps:

Yes, I'm using a Mac. I just implemented the settings suggested and ran a few tests. Unfortunately I'm still getting only 100Mbps when transferring into the array and around 180Mbps when downloading from the array. I have attached a diagnostics during a file transfer.

What are the next steps I should try? Thank you!

Try it without Jumbo frames---   MTU=1500    (As I recall, this has solve transfer speed problem in the past...)

EDIT:  And I just spotted this:

Jun 4 02:46:18 AssisServer kernel: Generic FE-GE Realtek PHY r8169-0-600:00: Downshift occurred from negotiated speed 1Gbps to actual speed 100Mbps, check cabling!
Jun 4 02:46:18 AssisServer kernel: r8169 0000:06:00.0 eth0: Link is Up - 100Mbps/Full (downshifted) - flow control rx/tx

Check/replace cable, ports and look for bent pins on connectors.
