CaptainTivo Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I have a problem that is probably not unique: I have been keeping data on a bunch of external USB-connected hard drives and I want to move the data to an Unraid server and "recycle" the HDDs inside the USB external boxes. I started this by copying all the data from a Seagate FreeAgent to my Unraid server. It was connected to my main PC by USB and it took about 17 hours to copy and verify (using Teracopy) about 1.5 TB of Blurays. Then I thought: can I just take the hard drive out of the Freeagent and put it in the Unraid server box (SATA) copy the data from the disk into the array? Has anyone tried this? It has to be faster than what I'm doing. Since I have 6 external drives left (1 and 2 TB) to copy, I would like to speed this up. Thanks.

It's designed so you plug in a drive and it will be automatically mounted and shared. You can also add some scripts to be run when you plug the drive in. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=5904.0
