June 8, 20242 yr As mentioned in title, i'm having an issue where i can't figure out why my cache isnt moving files to my array. I made a windows 11 VM, downloaded steam and started downloading games to act as a local lan cache (Actually lane cache seems out of the picture, cannot get a static ip from my isp). A few games downloaded, then i noticed the cache was basically full and mover hadnt wasnt set to move until 12am. I have gone into shares, and set them all to primary cache and secondary array, with mover action being Cache>array. Invoking Mover doesnt seem to do anything. A few files moved as the drive was 99% done when i noticed the cache hadn't been movingthen went to 100% It is back at 99%. Very new UnRaid user, very impressed with the versatility and looking forward to "smartifying" my home further. Hopefully i've posted any info needed to get some advice on what i'm doing wrong/missing that i need to change. June 8, 20242 yr Community Expert Enable the mover logging, run the mover, post new diags. Also mentioned from which share(s) do you expect the data to be moved.

Apologies, have enabled mover logging. Hopefully this helps I believe the main culprit is my windows 11's vm, i increased its drive size to 1tb on the shares menu, and assigned the drive inside the vm, then i started to load with games. Would that be the "domains" share? I had thought i had set it to move files from the cache to the array, but i have apparently got something mixed up/misunderstood something Apologies, very fresh to this so having to google most things lol. Ideally, i would like the windows 11vm, plex and home assistant to run from the cache drive. With the mass drive assigned in the vm reading and writing from the array Thank you home-server-diagnostics-20240608-2359.zip Edited June 8, 20242 yr by Dubsidious91
June 8, 20242 yr Community Expert system and domains are the only shares with files on cache, and system shouldn't be using much, so I am guessing you have some large vdisks in domains (and you seem to confirm that). VMs can access Unraid storage, so large vdisks may not be needed. And your cache isn't really large enough for this usage. Nothing can move or delete open files, so you have to disable Docker and VM Manager in Settings if you need to move or delete files in appdata, domains, system.

Ah ok, so i've misunderstood how "hard drive space" is allocated inside the VM's? That would make sense. Before disabling, i went into the windows vm and uninstalled/deleted the games i had downloaded and emptied the drive i had created in the vm hoping this would delete the files, but they still seem to be on the cache drive. I have now disabled VM's and docker in settings. How would i go about deleting files from domains? if i try to navigate to the domains folder in shares, it will only let me download the vdisk as far as i can tell?
June 8, 20242 yr Author Solution Could anyone comment on is a quick solution for this, would be to use the "remove vm and disk" on the menu in shares? I dont mind installing a vm again, and finding a different guide to follow to set it up correctly

Oh I was having this problem too. you are of course right, it just hadn't dropped in... I stopped all the dockers. disabled Docker & VM manager set the app data share secondary to array (so it knew there were files there) set the mover action "array to cache" and ran mover it worked - just need to revert all the above (eg app data back to cache only & restart dockers) Thanks!
