How to determine why 100% CPU Utilisation?

Featured Replies

The box ran out of resources and hit 100% CPU from a short glimpse at the webpage before the system hung which required a hard power cycle.

How do I determine what was using all the resources before the power cycle?

I checked the log file but it's only showing the current boot cycle.

Thanks.

The syslog is the RAM copy and only shows what happened since the reboot.   It could be worth enabling the syslog server to get a log that survives a reboot so we can see what happened prior to the reboot and waiting for the issue to happen again.  The mirror to flash option is the easiest to set up, but if you are worried about excessive wear on the flash drive you can put your server’s address into the Remote Server field.

Thanks. I'll look into setting up a remote syslog server or container.

The syslog server is built into Unraid so no reason to ever use a container,  Make sure when setting it up you read the information in the link about how to get an Unraid server to log its own messages via  the syslog server.
